Haiti Earthquake
The UN has described Haiti earthquake as the worst disaster is has ever dealt with and Haiti will need support to rebuild its devastated country now and for many years to come. The full extent of the devastation is still unclear but it has affected over 3 million people and it is likely hundreds of thousands of people have died. Haiti is already the poorest country in the Americas, ranking lower than Kenya or Bangladesh on the UN’s human development index. Most people in Port-au-Prince live in slums, so an earthquake of this magnitude is catastrophic. The quake has devastated the infrastructure of Haiti, including the presidential palace and the UN Head Quarters.
