Every Child a Chance Trust
PEF has invested in the Every Child a Chance Trust, a charity which aims to unlock the educational potential of socially disadvantaged children through the development and promotion of evidence-based, early intervention programmes.
The Trust was established in 2007. It grew out of the outstandingly successful Every Child a Reader project , which showed that with the right intervention it is possible to tackle the literacy difficulties which blight many children’s lives This three-year £10m scheme, now being rolled out nationally, was funded by a partnership of businesses and charitable trusts with matched funding from government.
PEF has invested specifically in the Trust’s new Every Child Counts programme which is taking the principles behind Every Child a Reader and adapting them for mathematics. Targeting the intervention on young children with the greatest difficulties in maths, the Every Child Counts intervention will enable them to achieve nationally expected attainment levels by the time they are seven.
PEF is taking a strategic role in the Trust’s development, and one of our Trustees, Dwight Poler of Bain Capital, has joined the Board of Trustees for the Every Child a Chance Trust. The relationship is also a practical one, as Jean and her small team are sharing PEF’s new Old Street offices.
